Southland Casino Racing donates $25,000 for local summer jobs program

The Mayor Summer Jobs Youth Empowerment Initiative is a program with a long-term objective to provide summer employment and educational skills to 100 youths to help them become ambassadors and future leaders for the city of West Memphis.

West Memphis Mayor Marco McClendon’s program is designed as a six-week employment and educational campaign for youths in the city.

The mayor’s hope is that through this initiative, youths will learn a good work ethic and gain the necessary skills that will help them become more productive in the West Memphis community.

“We’re grooming the leaders of tomorrow today,” McClendon said. “We are going to keep them here and they are going to be our secret weapon to make West Memphis grow.”

Southland Casino Racing donates $5,220 to Delta STEM Education Center at Arkansas State University

On Thursday, May 30, Southland Casino Racing presented the Delta STEM Education Center at Arkansas State University with a check for $5,220 to support a coding professional development for ten teachers on June 6, 2019.  The professional development is designed for ten teachers grades 5-9 from Marion, West Memphis, and Earle Schools Districts.  This donation includes everything ten teachers would need to immediately implement the materials and curriculum into the classroom without purchasing extra material.

The Janine Earney Celebrity Carnival is DeltaARTS’ major fundraising event. Each year for three nights in early August, DeltaARTS airs a televised/web-streamed auction where local personalities come to life as various celebrities to raise funds for the DeltaARTS’s imaginative arts education programs.
